Chubb Fire Extinguishers- Recycling Service

Firefighting devices are essential in the workplace. However, is it enough to make sure that all necessary fire extinguishers are strategically installed in the workplace? How about the collection and disposal of these fire extinguishers after they become old enough to serve their purpose? All condemned fire extinguishers are wastes that must be disposed legitimately and safely through a licensed waste carrier. According to BS 5306-3:2003, condemned extinguishers are those that have a major defect which make them either unsafe for use or unfit for service and can no longer be repaired by maintenance. For this reason, Chubb fire extinguishers are made to offer not just reliable fire safety but also a recycling unit.

When a fire extinguisher is condemned, no longer safe to use, or unfit for service, it must be disposed quickly and safely. Failure to dispose a condemned fire extinguisher legitimately and safely through a licensed waste carrier can result in prosecution. Outsourcing the disposal of condemned fire extinguishers to a third party does not excuse a guilty establishment, too. No existing customer of Chubb fire extinguishers has to worry about this. For the collection and disposal of condemned fire extinguishers, Chubb provides a fixed charge for a safe and legitimate fire extinguisher recycling service. Chubb customers can have total peace of mind both for fire safety and for waste disposal required by the Legal Duty of Care.

Once you installed Chubb fire extinguishers in the workplace, the business can enjoy the service offered by Chubb Fire’s Extinguisher Recycling Unit (ERU). The ERU provides a service for the safe processing, recycling, and/or disposal of condemned fire extinguishers in the UK. With the help of the local Water Authority and the Environment Agency, Chubb is geared towards contributing to the development of efficient and safe processes. Chubb protects not only the business itself but also the environment.

This is how it works. The customers of Chubb fire extinguishers will be informed if a fire extinguisher has been condemned on location and is considered too hazardous for removal. A specialist will then be sent off to tackle the condemned fire extinguisher safely before returning it to the ERU. Fire extinguishers can be damaged due to corrosion. They are no longer safe to use when it gives a sudden release of pressure that cannot be controlled or ejection of its parts. They are unfit for service when there are early signs of damage or corrosion, which are likely to worsen making the fire extinguisher no longer safe to use.

Installing fire extinguishers is a legal requirement to every business. It is the responsibility of every business to protect its people and properties. But it does not stop there. Along with the installation of the fire extinguishers is the legal requirement of disposing or recycling these firefighting devices when they are condemned, unsafe for use, or unfit for service. Installing Chubb fire extinguishers do not only ensure fire safety in the business. It also ensures the proper disposal of waste fire extinguishers for legal requirement and protection of the environment.

  1. A fire extinguisher can be a lifesaver. Placed near an exit, in an easy-to-grab spot, it can put out a small fire before the firefighters arrive, or at least suppress the flames while you escape.
